We know that October is a month of deadlines for a variety of arts endeavors and we are pleased to extend our Open Call deadline for an additional two weeks, through Oct. 26. If you were thinking of applying but knew you couldn’t make the original deadline, now you have some breathing room! You now have until Saturday, October 26th at 11:59PM to complete your application.

We are pleased to invite independent curators, emerging artists and arts professionals to submit exhibition proposals to be considered for the two gallery spaces at The Clemente, the Abrazo Interno Gallery, and the LES Gallery, from July 2020 to June 2021.

SELECTION PROCESS 

The Clemente is a Puerto Rican/Latino cultural institution that has demonstrated a broad-minded cultural vision and a collaborative philosophy. While The Clemente’s mission is focused on the cultivation, presentation, and preservation of Puerto Rican and Latino culture, it is equally determined to operate in a multicultural and inclusive manner, housing and promoting artists and performance events that fully reflect the cultural diversity of the Lower East Side and the city as a whole.  Given that history and the increasing gentrification of Lower East Side, The Clemente’s Visual Arts program is dedicated to supporting alternatives voices, multi-cultural exchange and work that pushes the boundaries of its media.

The Clemente’s Visual Arts Review Panel, which includes independent museum professionals, curators, gallerists and arts educators, will select exhibitions for the Abrazo and LES Galleries based on the strength of the art and curatorial concept.

Please review the guidelines below before submitting:

• Submissions will be judged on merit; you do not have to be a professionally trained curator to submit a proposal
• Group exhibitions are strongly encouraged (note: group shows are defined as 3 or more artists), however, show proposals for the work of a single artist will be considered if they meet the criteria below. 
• Artists acting in a curatorial role for a proposed group exhibition may include their own work in a proposal, i.e. you may not submit a solo show for yourself.
• Submissions that include programming such as artist talks, community workshops and gallery tours are encouraged.
• Proposals that include an additional fee-based open call will not be considered.
• To be considered, Clemente Residents cannot constitute more than 25% of the artists in your proposal.
• We do not accept proposals from undergraduate or graduate students. 
• The Clemente does not discriminate based on age, gender, or nationality. 

Single Artist Exhibition Criteria: This option is intended to offer exhibition opportunities to mature (artists 65+) or deceased artists whose work has been overlooked.  Artists acting in a curatorial role may not submit a solo show for themselves

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION 

• If funding allows, The Clemente may offer a stipend for curators and artists.  
• Selected exhibits will run for 4-6 weeks. 
• Gallery Hours: Open five days per week, Wednesday to Sunday, from Noon  to 7:00pm.  The galleries are closed Monday and Tuesday. The building is closed on all major holidays.  

Extended Submission Deadline is October 26, 2019. Application is open to US and non-US residents.  Artists will be notified of selection in January 2020.

Nos complace invitar a curadores independientes, artistas emergentes y profesionales de las artes a presentar propuestas de exhibición para ser considerados para los dos espacios de la galería en The Clemente, la Galería Abrazo Interno y la Galería LES, desde julio de 2020 hasta junio de 2021.

PROCESO DE SELECCIÓN

“The Clemente” es una institución cultural puertorriqueña/latinx que ha demostrado una visión cultural amplia y una filosofía de colaboración. Mientras que la misión de “The Clemente” está enfocada en la cultivación, presentación y preservación de la cultura puertorriqueña y latinx, está igualmente determinada a operar de manera multicultural e inclusiva, acogiendo y promoviendo artistas y eventos de actuación que reflejan plenamente la diversidad cultural del “Lower East Side” y la ciudad en su conjunto.

Dada esa historia y la creciente gentrificación del “Lower East Side”, el programa de artes visuales de “The Clemente” se dedica a apoyar voces alternativas, el intercambio multicultural y el trabajo que empuja los límites de sus medios.

El Panel de Revisión de Artes Visuales de Clemente, que incluye profesionales de museos independientes, curadores, galeristas y educadores de arte, seleccionarán exposiciones para las Galerías Abrazo y LES basadas en la fuerza del arte y el concepto curatorial.

Por favor revise las siguientes pautas antes de enviar tu propuesta:

• Las presentaciones serán juzgadas por mérito; no es necesario ser un curador profesionalmente entrenado para presentar una propuesta.
• Se recomiendan fervientemente las exposiciones colectivas, sin embargo, se considerarán propuestas de muestra para el trabajo de un solo artista.
• Solo los artistas que actúen en un papel curatorial para una exposición grupal propuesta pueden incluir su propio trabajo en una propuesta, es decir, no puede enviar una exposición individual para usted mismo.
• Se apoyan las presentaciones que incluyen programación como charlas de artistas, talleres comunitarios y visitas a galerías.
• Para ser considerado, los residentes de Clemente no pueden constituir más del 25% de los artistas en su propuesta.
• No se considerarán las propuestas que incluyan una convocatoria abierta de pago adicional.
• No aceptamos propuestas de estudiantes de pregrado o posgrado. 
• “The Clemente” no discrimina basado en edad, género o nacionalidad.

INFORMACIÓN ADICIONAL

• Si la financiación lo permite, The Clemente puede ofrecer becas para curadores y artistas.
• Las exhibiciones seleccionadas tendrán una duración de 4 a 6 semanas.
• Horario de la galería: abierto cinco días a la semana, de miércoles a domingo, desde el mediodía hasta las 7:00 p.m. Las galerías están cerradas los lunes y martes. El edificio está cerrado todos los días festivos importantes.

La fecha límite extendida de envío es el 26 de octubre de 2019. La solicitud está abierta para estadounidenses y no estadounidenses. Los artistas serán notificados de la selección en enero de 2020.

• 在資金允許的情況下，克萊門特可考慮為策展人和藝術家提供津貼。


• 展覽信息：展覽期間約4-6週。


• 畫廊時間：每週五天，週三至週日，中午至晚上7點開放。畫廊週一和周二關閉。 中心大樓在所有重要假日期間對外關閉。
